Steps to releasing a CD

When you release a CD, expect it to take 3 to 4 months to get a solid buzz going. During this time you will need to promote to every media outlet possible, do shows and interviews and take advantage of Social media. Twitter, Facebook, Myspace and Reverbnation can do wonders for promotion.
You should have a plan and timeline to follow. First set a release date for your first single off of the album.
During this time you should start considering your distribution options such as digital and physical copies.
Also, start thinking about having a listening party to make people aware of your new music. Invite every DJ and media person that will come. Then a few weeks before the release date, start sending your press kits and a copy of the CD to newspapers, radio and magazines. Make follow up calls to make sure they have received them and to ensure that they will make use of them. Remember to send to new media outlets as well. These are websites and web magazines that play and review music. You will need to have digital press kits and mp3's ready to send via email to these outlets. Always be nice and considerate to these people. For your release date, you will need to make sure stores like itunes and Amazon.com will have your music by then. Timing is crucial on this. Once your release day comes, you should start scheduling radio interviews. If you cannot get on major radio then go to college radio. They are just as important. Also be sure to submit to internet radio and satellite radio. Now an important step is to promote on Social media and your website. Make sure you have a nice website. Start promoting on your Twitter, Facebook and Myspace accounts. Run contests for your fans and give away free CD's or song downloads. If you have the money, make a music video and put it on Youtube and other video sites. You will need to do shows and sell your music there as well. Performing in clubs for your fans is a huge deal. You will be surprised at how many fans you gain from doing shows. Do as many as you can! Also, have someone take video of one of your live shows and place it on your website and Youtube for your fans. This may bring in more people to your next show. There is a ton of work involved but if you do it right, you should be able to make some money from your hard work. It is all too much for one person to do so either get a street team to help promote or gather friends and family to become your street team.

Artists and bands be sure to submit your music to these radio networks.
www.hardcorejamz.com (Hip-Hop)
