How long should your song be?

When creating a song you should take into consideration how long you want it to be. If the song is going to be a single for radio, then you want to keep it around 3 minutes. Radio tends to like shorter songs so they  have more room to fit in as much advertising as they can. Anything over 3 minutes should be used for a standard "non-single" album track or an extended mix type song. Also, your full album should not be too long as well. Remember, it should be quality versus quantity. The average fan would rather have 10 solid songs than 20 songs and only 8 are good. Some of the biggest albums in history were only 10 songs long (Michael Jackson's Thriller being one of them). So pick your strongest 10 to 12 songs for a full length album. Pick three singles for radio and have them be around 3 minutes. Or you can have the radio singles be a little longer for the album, but shorten them a bit for the CD's you give to radio.
