How to Mix Snare Drums

The snare drum is important in a song. You want it to stand out in the mix yet not be overbearing.
To get the best possible sounding snare make sure you get a solid recording of it with no distortion.
Now you will want to EQ to taste and to make it sound fuller add a tiny amount of reverb.
For EQ you can boost around 8Khz for a crispy sound. For Rock music you may want to boost around 75-80 Khz for a heavier sound. All in all you want a loud snare with authority but not overkill. Do not let it overtake the other instruments.
When mixing pull the snare volume all the way down and slowly bring it up into the mix to where it sounds right. Use your ears!
Mixing snare drums is easier than it may seem.
