Do you need sound treatment in a home studio?

Yes! A home studio is not designed or tunes to be a tracking a monitoring environment.
Most people do not treat a home studio because they do not want to spend the money.
Absorption panels are great for your control room/monitoring room.
They help get rid of echo and flutter.
Diffusion panels help keep sound waves from grouping.
There are so many different options.
Now the question next is where should you hang these treatments?
To start the area you mix in is important. Studio designers will tell you that the front of the room (walls and ceiling) should be treated with absorption of some sort, perhaps as far back as the engineer. Your recording area should be covered from the ceiling to the floor in absorbtion panels for a true dead sound. It really is up to you how you want things to sound.
