What studio monitors are right for you?

Let's face it, your monitors are the most important piece of equipment you have. They let you know how everything is sounding. When picking a pair out there are some things to remember. Studio monitors come as near field monitors, mid field monitors, and far monitors. Near field monitors are best for mixing since they are closest to you
They also have passive and active monitors. They both sound the same but the difference is passive you need an external amplifier to power them and active have an amplifier built in. Most people find active to be more convenient. Many major studios will have a few different pairs on monitors in the room so the engineer can hear the mix on different sets of speakers. The key is to get to know your monitors and whether they are a lower costing pair or the highest end possible, it is up to your ears to know what sounds good.
